Two farmers from Zambia who turned access to water into opportunity and growth

Smallholder farmers in Zambia face increasing pressure from limited access to water for production. Through irrigation development and farmer mentoring, Caritas Czech Republic is supporting communities to farm more productively and sustainably. For Alex and Lewis, this support has become a catalyst for growth, resilience, and improved livelihoods.

Climate change affects everyone: In Zambia, we are preparing young farmers as well as experienced growers

Samuel is in his early twenties and has been farming for only a short time. By contrast, Clerkson has worked in the industry since the 1990s. However, both of their livelihoods are threatened by climate change. Droughts are destroying harvests, yet agriculture is a common source of income in Zambia. That is why Caritas Czech Republic is training local farmers in modern techniques to help them better manage the impacts of climate change

Goat farming has improved the living conditions of a savings group in Zambia

In Zambia, Caritas Czech Republic supports local residents in becoming self-reliant and in personal development. Therefore, we assist people who unite in so-called savings groups within their communities. They farm together and learn new skills, which gradually helps them save money and improve their livelihoods. One of the groups that received our financial support is called Sala. Its members come from the village of Manungu in the Monze area of southern Zambia. They engage in goat rearing.

Edeby promotes organic farming in Zambia

Edeby heads Cassia Agro Enterprise Limited in the southern Zambian town of Monze. She founded the company in 2013 and today employs ten people. Thanks to training and support from Caritas, her business now focuses on organic agriculture.

Beauty from Zambia starts a new chapter as a seamstress with support from Caritas Czech Republic

At 47 years old, Beauty from Zambia has become a skilled seamstress and independent woman. But not long ago, she was a housewife with no job, entirely dependent on her husband’s income. After their divorce, she was left to care for five children alone, with no support from her former husband. Thanks to the training and support from Caritas Czech Republic, Beauty was able to change her life and start her own business.
