Caritas for Turkey and Syria: We have launched appeal to help people affected by catastrophic earthquake

A catastrophic earthquake of 7.8 magnitude struck south-eastern Turkey and Syria in the early hours of Monday 6th February. Caritas Czech Republic immediately launched an appeal to help the affected people. Thousands of people have already lost their lives and thousands are injured. Just before noon, another 7.6 magnitude earthquake struck south-eastern Turkey. People on the ground need immediate humanitarian aid. Caritas partners are already helping on the ground.

While the eyes of the world are mostly on the war in Ukraine, there are a number of other conflicts and crises escalating around the world that we should pay attention to. The world is currently experiencing the highest number of conflicts since the end of the Second World War. It is expected that 339 million people, one in 23 people in the world, will need humanitarian aid this year. What conflicts and crises should we be watching in 2023?

It sounds like a cliché, but 2022 really was a year like no other. At Caritas Czech Republic, we were fully immersed in helping people affected by the war in Ukraine. We immediately sent humanitarian aid to the country, and we also supported refugees from Ukraine in Moldova and in the Czech Republic. Our help did not stop there.
