My dream of pursuing higher education became a reality, says Damien, a refugee in Zambia

Damien, a refugee displaced by conflict from the Democratic Republic of Congo, faced significant barriers to accessing education due to the ongoing turmoil in his homeland. The conflict has not only disrupted educational infrastructure, but has also forced Damien and many others to flee their homes. Thanks to our support, Damien now has the opportunity to attend school in Zambia, where he can continue his education and build a brighter future.

They found safety in the refugee settlement of Mantapala, but Baruani wanted something more - an education that would also allow him to help other refugees. Thanks to our support, he is now studying at a university in Zambia’s capital, Lusaka.

It is the source of livelihood for over 70% of the local population. “The situation is serious and terrible,” says Martina Havlíková, the Country Director at Caritas Czech Republic in Zambia.
