Jakub Líčka, Secretary General of Caritas Czech Republic, has recently returned from an extensive trip to Ukraine. In addition to the western parts of the country, he also visited Kharkiv, Zaporozhye and the town of Bucha, and got up close to the front line. We talked to Jakub Líčka about his impressions of the country and how Ukraine has changed in the year of war.

The catastrophic earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria on Monday 6th of February has claimed more than 52,000 lives. The earthquake affected up to 26 million locals. People in the affected areas are in urgent need of humanitarian aid. Caritas Czech Republic is helping on the ground thanks to funds from the Caritas for Turkey and Syria fundraising campaign. Kalota Cooperative from a refugee settlement in Zambia now has a source of livelihood thanks to Caritas Czech Republic

Caritas Czech Republic has been supporting refugees in Zambia since 2014. With more than 100,000 refugees living in the country’s refugee settlements, basic needs and many other resources have become inadequate, leaving these refugees struggling to find money to get by each day. Thanks to Caritas Czech Republic in Zambia, a group of refugees and Zambians called Kalota Cooperative now has a source of livelihood through a rice processing centre in Meheba Refugee settlement.

Caritas for Turkey and Syria: We have launched appeal to help people affected by catastrophic earthquake

A catastrophic earthquake of 7.8 magnitude struck south-eastern Turkey and Syria in the early hours of Monday 6th February. Caritas Czech Republic immediately launched an appeal to help the affected people. Thousands of people have already lost their lives and thousands are injured. Just before noon, another 7.6 magnitude earthquake struck south-eastern Turkey. People on the ground need immediate humanitarian aid. Caritas partners are already helping on the ground.
