Edith from Zambia forms 14 savings groups and empowers over 100 people in her village thanks to Caritas Czech Republic

Edith, an entrepreneur from Mandali Village in Zambia’s Southern province, has empowered over 100 people by establishing 14 savings groups thanks to the financial management and business skills training from Caritas Czech Republic. Initially struggling with limited funds and market access for her small business, Edith used her newly acquired skills to enhance her business and become a master trainer, she now leads and supports her community by sharing her knowledge and experience.

Refugees, despite many prejudices, do not wait with their hand out for help, but instead want to work, study and stand on their own two feet. But they need support at the beginning to succeed. Poultry farming is one of the fastest-growing agricultural sectors in Zambia. Despite its growth potential, it still faces several challenges. From disease outbreaks, to limited access to quality feed and veterinary services, to inadequate infrastructure, which poses a challenge for many small-scale farmers entering the market. Like many others, Caroline faced these challenges in trying to set up her business. Thanks to our support, Caroline now successfully runs her own poultry business.

Damien, a refugee displaced by conflict from the Democratic Republic of Congo, faced significant barriers to accessing education due to the ongoing turmoil in his homeland. The conflict has not only disrupted educational infrastructure, but has also forced Damien and many others to flee their homes. Although Damien found safe haven in Zambia, access to education remained difficult for him as a refugee. Thanks to our support, Damien now has the opportunity to attend school in Zambia, where he can continue his education and build a brighter future.

We have been working in Zambia for the past ten years, supporting different communities across the country and making a positive impact on their lives. Our work mainly targets the vulnerable people living in remote parts of Zambia.
