Three dead in shelling of church in Gaza: Statement from Caritas Internationalis

Caritas Czech Republic shares the official statement from Caritas Internationalis regarding the tragic shelling of the Holy Family Church in Gaza, in which three civilians lost their lives. The church had served as a refuge for hundreds of people of various faiths. The statement calls for the protection of civilians, respect for humanitarian law, and an immediate ceasefire.

Gaza: Starvation or Gunfire - This is Not a Humanitarian Response

Caritas Czech Republic joined a call of more than 200 NGOs for immediate action to end the deadly Israeli distribution scheme (including the so-called Gaza Humanitarian Foundation) in Gaza, revert to the existing UN-led coordination mechanisms, and lift the Israeli government’s blockade on aid and commercial supplies. The 400 aid distribution points operating during the temporary ceasefire across Gaza have now been replaced by just four military-controlled distribution sites, forcing two million people into overcrowded, militarized zones where they face daily gunfire and mass casualties while trying to access food and are denied other life-saving supplies.

Farmer Enoch from Zambia is facing several challenges due to climate change. Caritas Czech Republic helped him farm sustainably

Enoch has been a farmer for almost 10 years. Recently he has been struggling with droughts that threaten his agriculture. Caritas Czech Republic provided him with resilient crops and training, which taught him how to farm efficiently and sustainably. Today, he successfully grows several types of crops, sells them at markets, and manages a seed bank.

Jasphine from Zambia lost both her mother and her sight at an early age, but managed to overcome all hardships

Jasphine has certainly not had an easy life, but she has never given up. Despite her visual impairment, she manages to care for her three children while continuing her education. However, due to a lack of financial resources, it was not easy for her. She therefore joined a savings group, through which she managed to save enough funds to continue her schooling – thanks also to the support from Caritas Czech Republic.

Ndaywel cares for her daughter with autism and starts a new life in a refugee transit centre in Zambia

Escaping war and starting over in a foreign country is never easy. Ndaywel knows this firsthand — she fled the Democratic Republic of Congo with her husband and daughter. Although she had to leave most of her family and has been caring for her daughter with autism for a long time, she did not give up. With the help of Caritas Czech Republic, she has found a new meaning of life in sewing.
